Pocket pc will no longer connect to windows mobile center
Hi my IPAQ pocket PC has suddenly (after 3 months of being fine) stopped
connecting to my pc. It shows up OK in device manager but doesn't appear in either sync center or windows mobile center. I have tried all the usual (removed/reinstalled device, mobile center etc) turned off all firewalls and security. It will just not show up. Nothing has changed since last week when it did show, (no new software, hardware etc). So now i have an out of date (ie useless) PPC. Mobile center is version 6.1 (latest I believe) on Vista. REALLY grateful to anybody who can fix this problem. regards Tony |

Re: Pocket pc will no longer connect to windows mobile center
Hi Tony,
Couple of things you could try. The first would be to try and see if a soft reset helps solve your issue. If it doesn't on your PC, go under Control Panel -> Programs and Features select WMDC and run a repair and then attempt a sync. -- Regards, Raj Pillai Microsoft MVP - Mobile Devices http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj "Tony" <Tony@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A34FF193-4BEE-4795-BE31-D2D97532B4FD@microsoft.com... > Hi my IPAQ pocket PC has suddenly (after 3 months of being fine) stopped > connecting to my pc. Thanks for the reply Todd, but no, unfortunately I don't have that facility
on my ppc. it's probably about 3 years old and has 'windows mobile version 5.0' onit "Todd Allcock" wrote: > > "Tony" <Tony@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:A34FF193-4BEE-4795-BE31-D2D97532B4FD@microsoft.com... > > Hi my IPAQ pocket PC has suddenly (after 3 months of being fine) stopped > > connecting to my pc. Re: Pocket pc will no longer connect to windows mobile center
Thanks for yopur response Raj. I tried your suggestions but it made no
difference. The frustrating thing is that last week it connected first time, every time - now nothing. "Raj Pillai" wrote: > Hi Tony, > > Couple of things you could try. This caused a lot of problems with firewalls and other network issues, so in later releases of WM5 and WM6, MS gave us the USB-to-PC applet to let users switch back to the older, slower, but less problematic USB serial connection. While mine never refused to sync, my PC created a new "network" every time I synced. By the time I was up to "Windows Mobile Device #45" or somesuch, I leared about the USB-to-PC trick and disabled it, opting for the "old school" connection. Perhaps there's a ROM update available for your device that has a newer WM5 release? (Although since it's not guaranteed to fix your issue, I might be hesitant to completely wipe the device by installing new firmware just to try.) Have you tried deleting the PPC in Device Manager then plugging it back in to reinstall? (Although if it doesn't connect, it might not show up in Device Manager, of course. Grrrrr...) Good luck and keep us posted- in the meantime, if I have an epiphany, I'll report back... |

Re: Pocket pc will no longer connect to windows mobile center
Your best bet is to reformat your hard drive, install XP, and use
ActiveSync. WMDC is nothing but trouble... ![]() "Tony" <Tony@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A34FF193-4BEE-4795-BE31-D2D97532B4FD@microsoft.com... > Hi my IPAQ pocket PC has suddenly (after 3 months of being fine) stopped > connecting to my pc. Re: Pocket pc will no longer connect to windows mobile center
I agree, but in the long run I might lose more then I gain. WMDC is trash. I
have tried EVERYTHING I can think of. It will just NOT connect (anymore - it did at first!!!). Thanks to MS I now have a completly useless PPC. So much for mobile solutions....
