i have office 2003 on vista. i insert a movie file onto the slide and use the
play 'on click' option. the movie plays when i click it but only the sound
plays; there is no visual, it just is black the whole time. how do i fix

Re: movie goes black when playing

Hi Frostin

Make sure the powerpoint file & the movie file are in the same folder and
also make sure that the folder has a short file path (e.g. C:\my
presentation rather than in your My Documents which is C:\Documents and
Settings\<username>\My Documents\My Presentation). If you move the ppt &
movie you will need to re-insert.

If that doesn't help, have a read of Austin's great tutorial:

You probably have to adjust your hardware accelerate. For instructions, go

RE: movie goes black when playing

I tried BOTH these solutions (I have Office 2003 on XP) and neither one
worked. I still get the sound of the movie, but a black screen. Help!

Re: movie goes black when playing

Randy,

Not a hardware issue. PPT has a known bug in that if the path to the media
is to long you get exactly what you are seeing. Solution:

Create a folder with a short path (C:\presentation)
Copy your existing presentation to it.
Copy the media file to it
Open the presentation
Delete the media file from it
Re-Insert the media file using the copy that is IN the folder with the
presentation.

Should be good to go.
