Powerpoint 2000-thumbnail views not showing

I'm working w/a child w/APDS (auditory Processing Disorder) and a PP movie
project. She's using multiple slides and we can not get the thumbnail views
to appear on the left; only the slide icon and title line. School tells me
we're using same version. Normal view will not show the thumbnails and I
can't find answers anywhere. Am I being forced to upgrade? I'm wondering if
perhaps they have the home and student version? Am I missing something?
Thanks for any help!

RE: Powerpoint 2000-thumbnail views not showing

Do you mean that there's no thumbnail pane at all or the thumbnails are just
blank rectangles?
