Cant Open .PPT File

I'm attempting to open an old power point file. When I double click on the
file, I get the message "The path or file name for A:\STUB.PPT is Invalid.
Please check that the path and file name are correct". The file path and
name are OK. When I attempt to open the file from within Power Point, I get
the message "You are attempting to open a file type that is blocked by your
registry policy setting". I'm using Power point R 2003(11.8227.8202) SP3.
I'm running XP Professional SP3. I get identical results when trying to open
a copy of the file from my hard drive. The file was probably created using a
version of Power Point prior to R 2003. The file is no longer available, so
I can't get a new copy. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: Cant Open .PPT File

What d'you mean saying "The file is no longer available, so I can't get a
new copy"?
If the file is no longer avalaible, how do you try to open it?

Normally A:\ drives are reserved as floppy drives. Which version of
PowerPoint created your file?

If the file is physically located on the floppy disk in Drive A: copy it to
the hard drive and then see this KB article to see if it helps.

Re: Cant Open .PPT File

After re-reading my sentence, it sounds idiotic. What I meant to say was
that this is a purchased file that is no longer available from the vendor.
The only copy I have is the one on the floppy that I purchased.

Re: Cant Open .PPT File

Michael,
My A: drive is a floppy. The file is one that I purchased. It was supplied
on a floppy. I can't tell which version was used to create it. However I do
know that it was an older version. I think that the solution provided by
LVTravel will solve my problem, although I have'nt tried it yet. Thanks.

Re: Cant Open .PPT File

If it came on a floppy, leads me to believe that it might be a PowerPoint 4
file. Might be hard to find an opener at this point in time.

If the fixes listed do not open the file, I may be able to do so and convert
to a version that your current software will open. I'll keep listening on
this thread and if needed will give you a link to email the file. I'll
attempt conversion and send back to you.

I currently have access to all versions of PPT except for Office 95's on
various computers from PPT 4.3 and up.
