How to create a Project plan with 2 time zones (GMT and EST)?

I need to create a Project plan which shows work happening in 2 different
time zones. I'd like to have these 2 Time Zones shown against each Task. Does
anyone know how to do this in MS Project? Thanks -appreciate any help you can
give!
Lynn

Re: How to create a Project plan with 2 time zones (GMT and EST)?

Hi Lynn,

I'm afraid you can't have a task scheduled against two time zones. I
would schedule the tasks by when the resources will be working on the
tasks.

I suggest setting the project calendar up as normal for the timezone
where the project manager is going to be working. Then create a
calendar (Tools > Change Working Time) with the offset for the other
time zone. Then apply that calendar either to the resources who will
be working or apply the calendar as a task calendar.

So, for example, you are in the Eastern US time zone (GMT-5). Create
the project calendar as usual and set the US resources up with that
calendar as their base. Then create the GMT calendar with the
appropriate off-set in time. If your working day is 08:00 - 17:00,
the working time in the GMT would be 03:00 - 12:00.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

My feeling is the standardize on Zulu time (GMT or UTC) and leave it up to
the resources to convert that into their local timezones. Not as strange as
it sounds - that's the way airline flight-planning and air traffic control
works around the globe. Have the various offices buy an extra wall clock,
set it to UTC, and put it next to their existing clock thaqt's set to local
time.

If your company uses Outlook for their email system, Outlook allows you to
display a second timezone on its calendar - have your resources turn it on
and set it to display UTC
