How can I confirm I can access an NTP server
Greetings,
I really would like to see a 593 event showing up in the system log, that to me would be positive confirmation. I have bounced the time service, done a w32tm -s (it's a 2000 box), and the /querysntp returns the correct value. My 11 warnings have stopped, but I would feel better if I got some "positive feedback" so I know the new time server is actually working for these servers. On one of my servers, I got a 593 shortly after bouncing the service, and this one has the Update Rollup for SP4 installed, the other two servers don't and they don't get the 593 after bouncing the services. I don't know if this make's a difference. If anyone has any information on this topic it would be most appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: How can I confirm I can access an NTP server
Hello -,
Do you run a domain environment or are all servers in a workgroup? In a domain you have to configure the DC with the PDCEmulator FSMO role to sync with an external time source. Any other DC in the domain will sync with this one and member servers/clients will sync with one available DC. Re: How can I confirm I can access an NTP server
Yes, it's the PDC emulator of the root domains of two forests. They're the
ones that were complaining. Hello -,
Ok, but this event id states only that the time was corrected, so it works. Re: How can I confirm I can access an NTP server
Yes but I only got the 593 only on one of the three DC's, I would like to
get one, but I'm not, though I'm not getting the 11 warning. Re: How can I confirm I can access an NTP server
Hello -,
For the other machines follow this, should add a entry in the event viewer, but not sure about the id number: To configure a client computer for automatic domain time synchronization w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier /update After that run: net stop w32time net start w32time Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > Yes but I only got the 593 only on one of the three DC's, I would like > to get one, but I'm not, though I'm not getting the 11 warning. > > "Meinolf Weber" <meiweb(nospam)@gmx.de> wrote in message > news:ff16fb66a14858ca9e2b0190521b@msnews.microsoft .com... > >> Hello -, >> >> Ok, but this event id states only that the time was corrected, so it >> works. >> >> Best regards >> >> Meinolf Weber >> Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and >> confers no rights. >> ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups >> ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm >>> Yes, it's the PDC emulator of the root domains of two forests. >>> They're the ones that were complaining. >>> >>> "Meinolf Weber" <meiweb(nospam)@gmx.de> wrote in message >>> news:ff16fb66a14728ca9e23649d0bdb@msnews.microsoft .com... >>> >>>> Hello -, >>>> >>>> Do you run a domain environment or are all servers in a workgroup? >>>> In a domain you have to configure the DC with the PDCEmulator FSMO >>>> role to sync with an external time source.
