File locked by something....

Hi all,

I can't delete or rename files on shared folder that I have been opened.

it always say Cannot delete or rename this file : It is being used by
another person or program close any program that might be using the file and
try again.

I quite sure nobody opened this file and I rebooted the client machine.

I have to reboot my server to solve this problem but it's too bad if I have
to do it every time this problem happened.

Does anyone know ? What is this reason? and how to fix this?

Thank you,

Woody Kee.

Hi Woody Kee,

You can use free tools like Unlocker or Process Explorer from Sysinternals
to view what application is locking that file and then to unlock it.

First thing is to log on as admin and try to take ownership. If that
works, make sure that the security settings are correct.

If that still won't work, boot into Safe Mode and try again.

RE: File locked by something....

Thank you Masterplan,

but I found the SYSTEM and wmiprvse.exe hold this file. I'm not sure that we
can end process SYSTEM. and when I end process wmiprvse.exe it didn't help
any. the file still can't rename or delete.

Re: File locked by something....

Thank you Hank Arnold (MVP),

I already did that and set everyone to full access to that folder but it
still cannot.
