Probably a failure in the bootable hard drive. Try booting off a bootable CD. |

Since your system reported a "Hardware Failure", your best bet would be to post your question in a "Hardware" newsgroup. |

"After working for some time ..." Are you monitoring the temperatures (CPU, system, GPU)? And "working" means doing WHAT on your computer? Games maybe? |

For starters, run a RAM test http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp |

Re: Windows XP error message - "System halted due to hardware failure
Remove any devices not absolutely needed to operate the computer (simplify
while troubleshooting). Reseat the video, memory, and any other cards. Check cable connections. If none of these steps help, consult a technician. Re: Windows XP error message - "System halted due to hardware fai
If heavy memory usage is the case, how to overcome this issue. We have 4 1GB DDR2 RAM in that machine. Should we apply for any patch to overcome this??? Re: Windows XP error message - "System halted due to hardware fai
If heavy memory utilization is the case for this error what should we try out ot fix it. We already have 4 1GB DDR3 RAM in that machine. Should we apply for any patch for the OS ??? Did you yet run the memory test as philo suggested? The problem may not appear until you consume enough memory to hit the part of the memory module that is failing. You haven't charted your memory usage over time to know how it starts out and how it grows, or which applications are growing the fastest or cause an immediate jump in memory consumption. You could search Microsoft's support site on using the /3GB or /PAE switches in the boot.ini file to see if that helps. Start with their 833721 article. |
