'installing upgrades' when offline
I have a Toshiba laptop with Vista on it. It doesn't get much use and is
rarely connected to the internet and I usually have the wireless connection switch set to off. However I have noticed that even when I am off line it 'installs upgrades', last night taking a good fifteen minutes to install nine upgrades before it closed down. If it's not connected, where are these upgrades coming from? Is there anything sinister going on? |

(hope I don't sound too paranoid!) |

Assuming Automatic Updates is configured to the "automatic" setting, it is
not unusual for updates to silently download in the background and then install when you attempt to shutdown. =========================== Windows Update-specific newsgroup: microsoft.public.windowsupdate Vista-specific newsgroups include: microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_acco unts_passwords microsoft.public.windows.vista.file_management microsoft.public.windows.vista.games microsoft.public.windows.vista.general microsoft.public.windows.vista.hardware_assessment microsoft.public.windows.vista.hardware_devices microsoft.public.windows.vista.installation_setup microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail microsoft.public.windows.vista.music_pictures_vide o microsoft.public.windows.vista.networking_sharing microsoft.public.windows.vista.performance_mainten ance microsoft.public.windows.vista.print_fax_scan microsoft.public.windows.vista.security -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ wally wrote: > I have a Toshiba laptop with Vista on it.
