Window File Protection
I was doing Disc Cleanup and this Windows File Protection poped up.
It said that files that ware required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions TO maintain system stability Windows must restore the original versions of these files. Then is says to incert the Windows XP. Then it gives you options to retry, more information or cancel What does this mean. I have a Windows XP cd for reinstallation Caroline |

Re: Window File Protection
Sounds like some files have been replaced with bad ones. You could instead
try running SFC (System File Checker (and replacer), as follows: Start, run, and type: sfc/scannow And then give the system a chance to replace the corrupted files (this may take some time, and it may prompt you for the CD). Then after it is done, you can eject the CD and reboot the computer. rockygirl48 wrote: > I was doing Disc Cleanup and this Windows File Protection poped up. > It said that files that ware required for Windows to run properly have > been > replaced by unrecognized versions > TO maintain system stability Windows must restore the original versions of > these files. > Then is says to incert the Windows XP. > Then it gives you options to retry, more information or cancel > > What does this mean. > I have a Windows XP cd for reinstallation > > Caroline |

Ok I will try that, was this a result of using Disk Cleanup, since that is
when I got the popup Thanks "Bill in Co." wrote: > Sounds like some files have been replaced with bad ones. Re: Window File Protection
My computer didn't recognize sfc/scannow, says it couldn't find it

Re: Window File Protection
You need to put a space after "sfc".
I would do it, Start Run type "cmd" + Enter then type "sfc /scannow" + Enter (no quotes) "rockygirl48" <rockygirl_60@earthlink.net.(donotspam)> wrote in message news:50689F6E-6910-4738-AE9D-D5A4A709BBB5@microsoft.com... > My computer didn't recognize sfc/scannow, says it couldn't find it > > > > "Bill in Co." wrote: > >> Sounds like some files have been replaced with bad ones. Re: Window File Protection
Thank you both for your help.
I ran the sfc /scannow and it checked the files, also it asked me to insert the Window's disc but I wasn't sure where on the disc I needed to go, it asked where I wanted to go, or something like that, but I didn't see a choice that fit my need. After the scan was done it went away so maybe I can assume all the files are ok Caroline "Bill in Co." wrote: > Thanks Colin. My bad! Re: Window File Protection
Good to hear. I presume you rebooted to let it complete its work, and all
is well. (As to where on that CD (which is probably a moot point now), I don't know the specific directory on it, but it seems you don't need to know now, anyways - apparently it found all it needed on your HD, fortunately). rockygirl48 wrote: > Thank you both for your help. > I ran the sfc /scannow and it checked the files, also it asked me to > insert > the Window's disc but I wasn't sure where on the disc I needed to go, it > asked where I wanted to go, or something like that, but I didn't see a > choice > that fit my need. > After the scan was done it went away so maybe I can assume all the files > are > ok > > Caroline > > "Bill in Co." wrote: > >> Thanks Colin. Does that mean that you never put the CD into a drive or that you put it into the drive and let it do "it's thing"? If the latter, you did the right thing. |
