Boot-time defrag
When trying to run a boot-time defrag, using Diskeeper 9, it fails and
displays "Couldn't open NTFS volume; Most likely cause: couldn't get exclusive access Diskeeper boot-time defrag cannot occur safely when another process is accessing the volume, so boot-time job requested will not run. Try again later. ......... ......... ......... Failed to initialize for volume C: -- volume probably not mounted or is not NTFS Exiting" Can anyone help me resolve this? |

Re: Boot-time defrag
Restart your computer and it should work.

Re: Boot-time defrag
You perhaps have Norton GoBack or similar software installed?

WHY? That may be the problem. Turn off that option and run it when you want, AFTER the system has had a complete chance to settle down (and nothing is accessing the disk, like a few of minutes after bootup). |

Re: Boot-time defrag
Thanks for your reply.
The Boot-time defrag is designed to run at bootup to defrag things that can't be defragged while online. Such things as the MFT and the Paging file are not defragged while the system is in its normal state. They can only be done when the drive is inactive i.e. at bootup before windows etc is running. But I have now tried it after a full Shutdown rather than a Restart with the same result. > > WHY? That may be the problem. Re: Boot-time defrag
Many thanks for your reply.
I do have ZA installed and have updated it to the latest build but the problem remains. I did think of uninstalling it to see if the Boot-time defrag will then work. Do you think that is a good idea? > Maybe Zone Alarm. You have some software installed that is causing it. > |
