Search results -too fast -no results

For some reason now, when I need to search for a file, the results are
returned within 3 seconds and does not find anything.
I search the entire c:drive, My Computer etc. all with the same results.
I manually find the file I'm looking for, so I know it's there.
Oh and I also will search something like: *.jpg and still nothing. 3 second
searc and no results.

Has anyone seen this before?

1) Try it with dbl quotes: "*.jpg"
2) Also check 'More advanced options'
3) Are you entering "*.jpg" in the file name box?

or in a dos shell, use:
dir *.jpg /s /b /p which will also find the qualifying
files in hidden or system directories. or
dir *.jpg /b /s > jpgfiles.txt to have the listing put
in a text file
