Windows installer wants a CD for snapshot viewer?
I work in a small office, with an inconveniently-priced consultant who does our network adaminstration, so I want to avoid asking the owner to call her in for a trivial issue. I've downloaded the Access snapshot viewer, and installed it on everyone's machine. It works fine, except for one machine. The first time I tried to open an email-attachment of type .snp, I got the Windows Installer message asking for the origninal CD-ROM that Office Professional uses. I tried reinstalling the snapshot viewer, and it recognized that it was reinstalling the program, and reported (again) that the installation completed properly. I don't think there's anything unique about this one computer. Everyone else, the report opened just fine. I don't know where the CD-ROM is, I suspect that it was installed from a network, and I'm not sure what to do. As i said, I hate to call our system admin for something like this. We are working with Office 2003 on Windows XP, using snpviewer version 4.71.410.0 |

Hi!

Well...if you don't have the CD, how did you go about installing the Snapshot Viewer program? You *should* have an Office installation CD somewhere, as well as supporting documents such as the EULA (end user license agreement), the manual and some other stuff. Perhaps you should ask the business owner? I think that in order to solve this problem, you will need to satisfy the Windows Installer's request and give it the CD it wants. William |

The Snapshot viewer is a program I downloaded from Microsoft support website, and does not require a re-installation. It's a generic program designed to allow people who do not have Access to view Access reports that are sent to them via email. I've installed it on at least 10 other machines without the requirement that I have the original CD. For your information, it is quite common in a corporate environement for there to not be a CD, but to have a network installation site. As I said in the original post, I could ask the owner of the business to call our very expensive network administrator, and ask her how to do this, because she is the only one that knows where the network install site is, but I don't think it's necessary. I've installed this program in a number of different environments, and, as I said in the original post, on several machines in this environment, and never been asked for the original desk before. |
