XP crashed, cant get to my protected files
I have XP Home, my system cashed while to install a Sata card. XP boots up
to a point then just a black screen with a mouse pointer ( it can move around). I have reinstalled XP home on a different partition, so now I have 3 choices on which to boot. The first is the new XP which runs fine but I cant get my files that I set so no one could see them with the crashed XP partition. I can see all other files in the D drive but the ones that I had protected. I'm still trying to boot up the crashed XP with still no success. Any ideas on how I can get to my files? TIA |

On start-up,tap the F8 key,safe-mode,enter xp as administrator,locate the
files..Or,boot to xp cd,recovery, locate files & move them.kb307654 or kb307973 gives details. "noreaster" wrote: > I have XP Home, my system cashed while to install a Sata card. If you didn't export your Certificate and Private key to a safe place at the time you encrypted the files, then you're outta luck, only Microsoft or Law Enforcement can retrieve the files. If your files weren't "protected" using Windows File Encryption, then ignore all of the above. -- Posted via NewsDemon.com - Premium Uncensored Newsgroup Service ------->>>>>>http://www.NewsDemon.com<<<<<<------ Unlimited Access, Anonymous Accounts, Uncensored Broadband Access |

I think the original post makes your last statement true... They stated, in the original posting, "I have XP Home ..." and "I have reinstalled XP home ..." <- given that information, they cannot utilize the Encrypted File System feature as it is not available to Windows Xp Home users. ;-) -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

Re: XP crashed, cant get to my protected files
Thank you so very much!
I didn't know if I could get to my files again. Next time I'll have to explain my problem in more detail. Re: XP crashed, cant get to my protected files
I'll need some to work with this, hopefully I can get the crashed XP running
fully. It crashes between the windows logo and where you can sign in.
