System crashs
Since just before Chrsitmas my PC has been crashing pretty much all the
time. I have posted here before and elswhere to ask for advice. Symptoms - logged in, maybe on the web or not and the screen goes black comes back and its frozen and I can't turn off, except by cutting the power. I have tried the usual stuff - updated graphic driver (Gforce) run windows updates and installed, unistalled software that I had loaded from just before Christmas etc (apart from the s/w that came with the external hard drive I purchased (segate) in March to back up all my stuff as I thought this may be terminal. I have run loads of scans Spybot, AVG, Ad aware etc. I have AVG installed and windows defender - no problems with viruses etc. The work around I now opearte after months of trying loads of different stuff, is that I log on and get maybe 2 - 15 PC time before the sytem crashes. In safe mode I do a sysyem restore to the last time I had a stable system and the sytem then works fine - in fact I will leave the PC running all day before switching off at night. As I know the system will fall over again the next time I log on, I set a couple of restotre points each time I am in stable session then when it falls over the next day I try one of the previous sessions restore points and generally I'm OK!! I'm, as you can imagine, a bit fed up with this - any other suggestions that I might not have tried? Thx in advance. BoaT -- |

Everything you've tried has been software-related and your problems sound to me like they are caused by failing hardware. As you can see, software solutions will do nothing for hardware-related problems. Either troubleshoot the hardware yourself or take the computer to a competent tech. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...ardware_Tshoot Standard disclaimer: I can't see and test your computer myself, so these are just suggestions based on many years of being a professional computer tech; suggestions based on what you've written. You should not take my suggestions as a definitive diagnosis. Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). If possible, have all your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop. Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com Don't Panic! |
