fax

I am having difficulty adding a few components to my computer. I have XP
and had it up to SP3. I have cleaned things by unistalling and removing
through Add/Remove. Included in this were all the updates along the way
over the past five years.

For example in trying to add fax service, it is asking for my CD of SP3. I
don't have that, only the original CD. I am guessing that I may have
deleted some important files in previous updates. Should I be going to
Microsoft's website to reinstall updates that go all the way back? Should I
reinstall SP3 or even go to SP2 and then SP3.

Any thoughts

RE: fax

You will have to slipstream sp3 into a current copy of xp.
as your installed OS is newer than your cd version, that's why it's asking
for the sp3 cd.
