Network security access.

Hi all,
I have a network between 5 pc on which there is installed Windows XP Pro
SP3. PCs
are physically connected through a router.
On one of the PC, what I acts as a server, are shared some
directories while the other is not shared anything.

Now, of shared directories on the server you find one that I
make accessible to 2 machines "client" and not at the other two.
I tried to make this thing in the properties of
sharing, eliminating the rights of "Everyone" and
setting those of individual machines but I have a problem: when
I try, in the textbox "Path", I not find the other machines on the network
and I see only the server machine that is the same
which is physically allocated the directory where I want
discriminate access with the result that for users of the "local" machine
and for those special, I can set correctly
rights while for the other machines I can not do that.

How can I do to get the result? Why in the textbox
"Path" I do not see the other machines, which could tap to
then assign the rights of content management, but only that
"server"?

Thank you, Lidia.

You don't share folders with other computers, you share them with other users.
With that in mind, you first need to disable Simple File Sharing on the computer
that's sharing folders. You do that in Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View
page -> Uncheck Use Simple file sharing (Recommended). Next, you need to create
user accounts on that computer that match in user name and password the user
accounts on the two computers you wish to allow access.

Here are some articles that you may find helpful.

Note: If you haven't done so already, you might want to post your question to
the microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web newsgroup.

Good luck
