High CPU usage regardless of what is running
I have a relatively new Dell XPS M140 -- It seems that no matter what
is running, the total CPU usage is always at 100%. I have run various Antivirus programs (Adaware, Spybot S&D, Housecall) and found nothing. I have tried to end the processes in the Task Manager, but even if I do, another process takes up the slack and it immediately maxes out again. I have gone to Services, stopping everything one at a time and observing the Task Manager -- nothing. I have tried rebooting in Safe Mode -- still maxes out the CPU. I have tried going to the System Configuration Utility and "Disabling All" Startup Items -- when I restart, things are still maxed out. I've also tried a System Restore, but it is always unsuccessful. Any suggestions? |

What is the EXE name of the process eating up the CPU? Go out and get Process Explorer 11.04 and you can see a more detailed picture of the processes and maybe it'll give the techy folks here an indicator as to what's going on. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx - Thee Chicago Wolf |

Re: High CPU usage regardless of what is running
It is actually different processes. If I end one process, another one
seems to take its place. It is usually svchost.exe -- when I end that process, it is services.exe. If I open Explorer, it's iexplore.exe or explorer.exe. Just always at 100%. |
