ntuser.dat in use
Occasionally, I will logoff a userid on an XP pro workstation and logon with
my admin id. While logged on with my admin id, I will back up all the profiles (except the admin id with which I am logged on). For the most part, this works without issue. On rare occasions, I get an error message ntuser.dat is in use. When I get this, I need to reboot, log on with the admin id and can backup the data without any problems. It's not really a big deal, but I was just wondering if there was a way to close the ntuser.dat file without rebooting. I've taken a look through task manager and I don't see that file as being resident in memory. Thank you |

If you use ntbackup.exe or regback.exe then you won't have a problem. If you use another program then you have to reboot the machine in order to unlock this registry file. |

Thanks, I usually just do a copy paste of the local profile to another pc on
the network. I guess reboot it is.
