Making Desktop PC Into VPN Server For Itself?

I've got the MSDN DVDs- and I'm guessing they probably have an
install for VPN server on them somewhere.

So... would it make any sense for me to install a VPN server on
this remote PC that I want tb able to connect to at will?

My rationale is that I've already got VPN clients and Remote
Desktop on all my PCs and with a VPN server on that one other PCI
wouldn't have to spend the man hours and brainpower learning how
to install/use some other pipeline.

You ask "Would it make any sense for me to install a VPN
server on this remote PC that I want tb able to connect to
at will?" The answer depends on your exact requirements.
If you just want file/folder access then a VPN would be
fine. If you want to run interactive sessions then you would
need to set up Remote Desktop.

That's what I had in mind - VPN as the tunnel and Remote Desktop
as the UI.

Do you think that the VPN server (or whatever it's called...) can
be run on a regular Windows XP Pro PC and allow Remote Desktop
Access to that same PC?
