XP hangs on saving settings screen on shutdown
Toshiba Tecra Core duo about 18 months old, original factory windows
installation. 2 days ago on shut down it started hanging up on the "savings settings" screen. It goes through the shut down sequence, then starts the hard drive looking for something, and continues til I hold the power button down. No hardware or software changes took place that day Any suggestions? |

RE: XP hangs on saving settings screen on shutdown
According to Windows update, I have all updates installed. If there is a fix
that needs to be reinstalled, the article has now wasted an hour of my time without getting me to it. Try installing this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en Also - what startups do you have running? What about antivirus products - what do you utilize? Finally - have you scanned with several different antispyware products to make sure you are clean? (Superantispyware, Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy should be a free combination that cleans you up pretty decently.) -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

Re: XP hangs on saving settings screen on shutdown
AVG antivirus, AdAware runs in background and scans 1 a week, Spybot runs
every day at lunch after JKdefrag, which runs after AVG. Startups are basically Trillian, googletalk, and whatever seems to be needed for the system, which is a wired network at the office and wireless at home. I'll try that link now "Shenan Stanley" wrote: > widman wrote: > > Toshiba Tecra Core duo about 18 months old, original factory windows > > installation. > > 2 days ago on shut down it started hanging up on the "savings > > settings" screen.
