Most disks recently produced are copy protected (and cannot be legitimately described as CDs). One of the side effects of most of the copy protection systems is that they prevent the disk from being played on a PC (by design). Some schemes load a small player interface software to 'decode' the audio data, but this only installs if the autoinsert notify is enabled. At least one of these has harmful side effects (The Sony BMG rootkit protection scheme). |
