explorer freezes

Hi, could you suggest me things to do or not to do to solve my problem with
Explorer. I open a folder and the it freezes. I reinstalled windows XP sp2
with IE 7. I uninstalled ie 7 but that is not the cause. There is nothing
else that I open and it freezes. I do not want to reinstall xp.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Daniel
