Windows XP license issue
Hello everyone ! I bought an off-lease used IBM Netvista computer that had Windows XP pre-installed. There is an IBM OEM Windows XP COA sticker. What does this mean in term of license? Is this even legal? If something goes wrong, whom can I ask for support? I have looked at the license page at Mircrosoft but am still confused . Any help? Thank you. -- Canuckasian |

Re: Windows XP license issue
It means that your copy of Windows is licensed specifically to that
computer. You are OK. An OEM license cannot be transferred to another computer so you cannot use that copy of Windows on a different computer even if you remove it from the present one. OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer. In other words, your's was installed by the maker of the computer and was not purchased in a store. 95% of Windows out there are copies installed by the maker of the computer so everything is quite normal about your Windows. Enjoy. Re: Windows XP license issue
I am not saying that I am a Microsoft Pro or anything but with my own
personal experiences I always find a new clean retail version of Windows bought from the Windows Market Place a better choice. Keep in mind this is just my opinion. With all the piracy issues today I feel better being able to grab my cd with the holograms and stuff on it so I KNOW I am legal. Again my personal experiences buying software or inheriting software. I have never had a problem with Microsoft or IBM. Just wanted to give you the other side of the coin so you can make your own informed decision.
