[Cell Phones] Convert videos to watch on MM phone, Sprint/Nextel

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a simple guide on how to convert your own videos and put them onto your phone's memory card.

As of right now, the MM5600 is the only phone which supports these instructions with saving them on the card.

These instructions will also work for other MM phones, but remember that the MM7400 and MM700 have very limited memory, so you will have to make the files really small in order to watch them on the phone.

Programs Required

3GP Converter, found at http://www.nurs.or.jp/~calcium/3gpp

Quicktime Player, avaliable at www.apple.com/quicktime. You don't need the Pro version to make the 3gp files, but when you install it, make sure to do a CUSTOM install, and select the "QuickTime Authoring" feature.

Stoik Video Converter, found here: http://www.download.com/STOIK-Video-Conver...=dl&tag=buttonl
That is the link for the PRO version, but the basic one should work fine. What you want to do is make sure to convert the file to either AVI or MPEG, as the the 3GP converter would work easier with that.

Conversion Steps
You need to have an AVI or MPG file to begin with. This program supports most codecs, but if you can convert the file to MPG before you use the converter program, it will make the process easier.

Make sure to extract the 3GP converter program into a folder on your desktop. This makes it easier to do the conversions. First run the Setup.exe program, and click on the drop down box to select english. Then highlight "General: 3GPP+AAC General Setting" and press "APPLY". This will pull up another box, which has a drop down with some options. Make sure to select "QCIF Normal quality 15fps Mono" from the drop down, and then drag your MPG/AVI file into the space where it says "Drag and Drop here". Click on the SELECT button, to pick a location to save your converted file. Once you do that, you just wait for the conversion to finish.

This will create a file which is roughly 1.5mb for every minute of video. Once the conversion is done, just copy it onto the miniSD card of your phone, and you have yourself a nice video to watch on the go.

This is a free way to do the conversion, but there are many paid 3gp converter programs out there, which offer more levels of customization.

Make sure to have at least a few hundred MB of free space on your machine, as converting different formats will take up space temporarly. Also, this process does require newer PCs, so if your computer is older, you may want to aviod doing this, as it will take a very long time to render the file.

Common Error Messages
If you are trying to convert the program, and a box pops up with an error, that means the program did not understand the file you are using.

Run the Stoik Video converter, and click on the drop down where it says "Input file" then click on browse, and select the file you want to convert. Then click on the drop down where it says "Output file" and select a name and place to save the file.

Under Output format, scroll down Edit Profile, and under profile name, make sure you have "AVI for PC medium (320x240, 15fps, Indeo)", and then click on "General AVI", and then under Video Compressor, select "Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V2" and under Audio Compressor, select PCM, and Audio Format is 22.050khz, 8bit, Mono.

If your computer does not give you that option, you need to download the codecs, which can be found at http://dvd.box.sk/download/angelpotionv1-575.zip.

Once you do that, click on OK, then Record, and you will have a converted file, which you can then drag into the 3GP converter program, and get your final 3GP file.
