Very large .doc file PDFMaker (new user)
Hi,
Yesterday I began conversion of a 58 Megabyte Word2003 file into PDF using Acrobat Pro 7.0. (Used the command Create New Pdf.) The file is around 4000 pages. It contains approx. 12K bookmarks and approx. 68K internal hyperlinks (jumps to the bookmarks) that need to be functional in the end product. I can't break this into smaller files with external jumps, because the requirement is that the PDF be delivered as a single file. The conversion has been running for ~21 hours. Aside from a warning at the beginning that "it would take a long time" if I left the tags option on, there have been no errors. A small dialog, Titlebar=Acrobat PDFMaker is in view. Text at the top says Style... ####### (where the #'s is a constanly upticking number@ a few/ second=214192 now) A progress bar with 3 blocks filled in. an Edit Box that contains the lines: Converting Headings and Styles to Bookmarks... Converting to Adobe PDF... It just keeps going... In Task Manager Winword.exe is very slowly gaining RAM usage (740KB now) Does anyone know if I should just wait this out? (or of a better way?) |

(or of a better way?) You have placed a great demand on the software. Some of the speed issue might be a matter of how much RAM you have and what your processor is. Anyway, I would let 'er rip and see what happens. |

The text on the dialog has changed to "Searching..." and Task Manager is saying that word is "Not Responding" I've often seen this when it's in a tight loop. I'll give it till the morning. Off hand, would you know if I must include tags in order make get internal hyperlinks functional? |

Now it's still at work in "Post Processing..." "Creating PDF Tags..." Hope this ends soon. Any idea if I import the document into Framemaker 7.1 first and THEN generate PDF via Distiller if the process would be more swift? |

Interestingly (for me because I'm new to all this PDF stuff), when I built a small subset with tags enabled, there was no "Tags" tab on the finished PDF. |
