Go to the Processes tab in the Task Manager and see if you have any of these 3 executables in the list: MotiveSB, McciTrayApp.exe, Mcctrayapp.exe. If you see any of these then End Process on them and then try to use the Link Tool. These programs, installed with your DSL or Fiber Optic software from Verizon and ATT&T, are known to cause crashes with the error: encountered a problem and must close. They also cause the same behavior when you scan, rotate a page, etc.
