I have a large number of documents that were scanned and saved as .pdf files. They vary in size. I am now having trouble opening some but not all of them in Acrobat 8.1 or with Adobe Reader 8. The common denominator for the files that won't open seems to be that they are noted as compressed in the document properties. When we try to open the documents in Adobe Reader nothing happens and the file will not open. When I try to open them in Acrobat 8.1, I get a "file name is invalid" message.

The other possibility is that some of them have rather long file names. I'm surprised, if that was the problem, that the system allowed the names to be created in the first place. For the affected files, they cannot be renamed as XP doesn't give us the option to do it.
