secial gradiant in Illustrator question Yukio Miyamoto

Hi guys !
please does anybody know how to create shadows like those found in Yukio Miyamoto illustration from adobe illustrator folder named Sample art" the file name is Crystal.
If you check the colored balls inside the cup, you will see a strange gradient effect. does anyone knows how Yukio Miyamoto did that?

I can only comment on the sample included with AI 12 (CS2).

The 'marbles' comprise standard linear and radial gradients.

Thank you for your replay
The strange thing is a shape, inside this shape there is another shape transparent and with feather effect around it border.
The mother shape hide half on the inside shape. the result you will see the feather effect only in one area. the other border are cut straight without feather effect.
Normally if you want to make that you will have to take a shape with feather effect and applie to it a mask so you will have see the feather only in a small portion on the border.

I see what you call feather "effects" as the result of straightforward gradient fills applied to closed paths

Can you point out a specific marble as an example? Perhaps, then, we can all dissect it together.

Re: Special gradiant in Illustrator question Yukio Miyamoto

Hi Harron
Now I understood this trick.
If you want to create an irregular shadows for a pear or bell. you cannot use linear gradient or radial gradient. because the shadow has to follow the shape of the pear.
you can use the mesh tools. but this trick is easy and for rapid work.
1 draw your shape for shadows and choose its color.
2 go to effect > Stylize> feather the shape become smooth in its border.
3 take the mother shape of the pears that you want to adds this shadow
4 put the pears shape in the front and choose white color
5 go the transparency palette and select the shadows shape and the pear shape and choose > Make Opacity mask from the transparency palette.
