I know the path to my recovery data should be \Documents and Settings\<User>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 5.0\Caches\InDesign Recovery.

The problem is my path only goes as far as \Documents and Settings\<User>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 5.0

There is no Caches folder. I've tried to run a search to find the InDesign Recovery file but have returned nothing. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated since this mean redoing a lot of work if the effected file cannot be opened.

Have you got "Show hidden files and folders" selected in Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View?
