making a TOC causes ID to CRASH

I have a large (50 chapter) manual. I'm trying to put together a Table of Contents. For some reason, InDesign crashes every time I try to run the "create TOC" function.

This only started yesterday (Wednesday, 7/15). For the past several weeks, it has worked fine.

I do not have Administrator's access to the program files, so I can't rename the ID Saved Data or Defaults, as is recommended on the ID site.

How unprofessional to use Arial.

I'm no big fan of Arial but I'm even less a fan of faux small caps. (Or has Arial now been given true SCs?)
