i have made a gif animation in photoshop (it is set to forever), which plays
fine, but when its imported into dreamweaver via the gif animation import in
dreamweaver, it wont play when viewed in a browser

There is no such feature in DW. DW knows nothing about GIF images other than
the fact that they are images. I'm guessing that you did not properly
export the animated GIF from Photoshop. When you open that image in the
browser, does it animate?

no it doesn't animate, it remains static, even when viewed in the browser, how do you export the gif animation from photoshop? i am using cs3 in ps and dw

once the image is how you want with the animation select
Save image for web, ensure it's in gif format with the animation box checked.

as above then use Insert > Image as you would for any pic.
