Don't have FTP access with Dreamweaver
For some reason I have lost FTP access to some of the sites I maintain. I have
been using Dreamweaver for years and have always been able to access these sites. I have made no changes recently that I am aware of that would affect this. Access to some sites are still working; for a few others I get a message ? An FTP error has occurred--cannot make connection to host.? And then following that are some reasons why that might have happened having to do with Firewalls and Passive modes and non-standard ports all of which does not seem relevant to this site (though I did look around to see if changing any of the settings would make a difference). I am able to have FTP access to the sites using an outside FTP program so the problem seems to be in Dreamweaver. Any ideas? |

Re: Don't have FTP access with Dreamweaver
Usually on the Mac side Passive FTP must be enabled. If you have another FTP
client connecting with the exact same information then this is usually the advice I would give because it is normally the culprit. Is anything else in DW not functioning properly (just want to make sure the error is not connected to anything else)? |

Re: Don't have FTP access with Dreamweaver
I had the same issue this morning. Here's how I solved it. This came from adobe
tech support. In the site management ftp host box he had me to re-enter the ftp host as ftp.(domain).com and and check passive and it worked. Of course this presumes the host suffix is .com. Don't ask me why, but it worked. I am on Windows XP Pro, but the server probably could care less. Worth a try any way. HTH, Joe |

Re: Don't have FTP access with Dreamweaver
The "Use Passive FTP" is checked though I tried it both ways. I also disabled
my Firewall. That didn't make any difference. Also tried a checking and unchecking other options I tired reentering the ftp host box. tohough not clear why that would make a difference 'Nothing seems to be working. I took a look at the link that Murray sent and I have already tried the most obvious of these. Just to repeat this problem is only in Dreamweaver, only happened recently and only affects a few of the sites (though FTP access for these seems as straightforward as any others.) I contacted earthlink which hosts one of the site. They said only Dreamweaver would have the answer. Oh well. |
