A non Dreamweaver user question.
Hello everyone,
I believe Dreamweaver has the ability to download a website to a computer. Is this right or am I making this up. If it can. Can it download a non Dreamweaver site? Hears the deal. This guy I replace a harddrive for had a website on it made with Godaddy's Website complete. There is no chance of getting the data off the drive because it is completely dead. and of course he didn't backup. Can Dreamweaver help him? Or can Godaddy's Website complete do this too? If anyone is familiar with that program. Thank you very much :grin; |

Re: A non Dreamweaver user question.
Hello,
Yes, DW can certainly do that. You could also go into his GoDaddy hosting account on their site and use the FTP tool included with hosting to download everything in the site. You could even use FireFox or IE's FTP. With any of the choices, you just need the name of the host directory, the login and password to gain access to the site. With DW, just define a new site, set up the FTP and connect to the remote server. "Get" the content and DW will download it all to the directory on the local computer you set up when you defined the site. Re: A non Dreamweaver user question.
> Godaddy's Website complete I'm not familar with that product. A google shows it's a desktop app. IF it creates and uploads html and image files, AND the person can get the ftp information to connect to the remote server, all he really needs is an ftp client to get the site files, if he doesn't want to use dreamweaver. IF it is some kind of database driven CMS setup, it's a whole different story. -- Alan Adobe Community Expert, dreamweaver http://www.adobe.com/communities/experts/ |

Re: A non Dreamweaver user question.
One more thing..with GoDaddy, the name of the host directory is usually the
same as the Login with "/" at both ends. For example, Host Directory: /something/ Login: something Password: ****** Take care, Tim "TC2112" <nospam@nospam.com> wrote in message news:g68hjm$kuu$1@forums.macromedia.com... > Hello, > > Yes, DW can certainly do that. > You could also go into his GoDaddy hosting account on their site and use > the FTP tool included with hosting to download everything in the site. > You could even use FireFox or IE's FTP. > With any of the choices, you just need the name of the host directory, the > login and password to gain access to the site. > > With DW, just define a new site, set up the FTP and connect to the remote > server. Re: A non Dreamweaver user question.
If using DW, when you define the site just be sure to set the path and
folder name for "Local Root Folder" to be the same as the location on the original drive. If using GoDaddy's FTP online or another client, just create a folder with the same name and in the same place as the original. Select everything on the GoDaddy side of the FTP window and browse to this folder on the local side, then transfer.
