File window behavior
I can't tell where I am in the files window, "site files" view.
As it stands, when I open the server in the file window, I see hundreds of folders with an arrow next to them. When I click the arrow, the contents unfolds and is added to the list. I keep doing this to drill several layers deep. This may be okay for your average site, but I work for a complex organization with ten thousand folders. I can't easily figure out where I am in the directory structure. *** Here is my point. With so many thousands of folders, I can't tell if the folder I'm in is development, production or sandbox unless I scroll up a mile. Then when I scroll back down, there is some chance I will end up in the "smith/css" folder instead of the "jones/css" folder, because they stay open. I don't want to scroll anywhere to see where I am. I want to see the path in the title bar. Can this be done with the base program, or by using some trick? I am constantly lost, partly because of all the extraneous folders above and below, and partly because the folders stay open. A "fold all" button would be a big help. I don't want to submit a new feature request, I want to know if the program can be made to do this now. Thanks a bunch.:disgust; |

Re: File window behavior
ok, i'm not sure if this is what you mean, but when you have a file
open, it shows you the path at the top of the Dreamweaver window. so, on mine for example, it says "Dreamweaver 8 - [D:\mysitename\foldername\filename (XHTML)]" secret screen name wrote: > I can't tell where I am in the files window, "site files" view. > > As it stands, when I open the server in the file window, I see hundreds of > folders with an arrow next to them. when you have a file open, it shows you the path at the top of the Dreamweaver window [/q] That would be fine if I could get that info for any file on in the File window. I don't want to have to open and then check back in just to see if I am looking at the dev server or sandbox. Really, I want to shut off the frigging folding arrows. Because they make the list larger. My site is blindingly wide and deep, and I don't want to navigate 500 lines to find a particular folder. Oh, well. Dreamweaver is great for an average company. It just doesn't cut it for a giant site. Not a jab, just an observation after using DW for eight years. If they ever want to court larger organizations, they need to allow multiple file folders to be open in multiple windows. If I'm not working on a folder, I want it hidden in a dropdown. (And fix the check in/check out thing. It's great, but I want to check everything back in at the end of the day.) Maybe there is a plugin or third party addin that makes a large file window more manageable? |

Re: File window behavior
i haven't heard of any, but you could check the Dreamweaver exchange on
adobe.com and see if there's any extensions like that. you should also submit a feature request or something so that maybe they can add that functionality to future versions. i can definitely see how a really big site would be unwieldy in the current file structure. secret screen name wrote: > [q]Originally posted by: Newsgroup User > when you have a file > open, it shows you the path at the top of the Dreamweaver window > [/q] > > That would be fine if I could get that info for any file on in the File > window.
