:) Walt, this isn't just a DW/webdev/webdesign thing. It's getting just as
bad on the various graphics apps newsgroups/webforums, too... especially on
the new one for the graphics suite you and I use. (and I'm not referencing
the OP here; just making a generic comment)

Perhaps it's a retrovision kind of thing? I.e., going back to the early 80s
where "preppy" was the "in-thing" and hot pink/aqua/green color combos were
considered cool?

Re: My First Day on the Forum

Walt, i completely agree with you. i just don't understand how people
end up here without even looking at the Help file BUILT IN to
Dreamweaver first. it's like they don't even know it's there. and then
they somehow find their way here, and then don't bother to search for
their problem before posting. i don't know if they're ignorant or lazy.
or both. i have a difficult time not snapping at all the people who post
questions that can easily be found by opening the Help file or
conducting a simple search here because it's a question that's been
asked and answered hundreds of times already. i don't want to be rude,
but it really does get old.

it drives me crazy that so many people simply will not make an effort to
find things out on their own and actually use their own brain. and it's
not just here. it's everywhere!

A strange post from someone asking for help. Who is it directed to?

Maybe they think people get paid to help them in these forums? I think
part of the problem could be that they don't realise its a user to user
forum, and that there is no one from Adobe here who is going to give
them direct support.

The reason I started web design is because back in 1997 I was a
telephone support bod, and we won the contract to support HoTMetaL Pro
6... a really poor HTML authoring suite. I had my list of support
questions to do with its operation, but I didn't know what HTML was,
hence my journey to discover what it was all about....that was when
Dreamweaver 2 was just out!

It would appear to be me - I'm unsure why - anyway I'm off to bite my
fingernails, start wetting the bed and generally throw a wobbly :-P

Re: My First Day on the Forum

i think you're right, Dooza. but can you really blame them? i mean,
they'd have to actually read the part on the Adobe.com forums page that
says, "Adobe Online Forums are for the Adobe community's peer-to-peer
discussions of both Adobe and formerly Macromedia products. Please note
that these forums are not an official customer support channel for Adobe."

who has time to read anything these days?

That's the main reason I've almost stopped posting here.

Everyone is in such a rush to get the job done that they forget the most
basic things. There are some very grateful individuals who accept what
they are told, and learn from there mistakes, but there are some who are
frustrated with the situation. Every couple of months it seems someone
gets frustrated with the newbies, then it goes quiet for a bit, and it
all starts again.

I feel sorry for anyone who is fallen into thinking that web design is
easy, and that Dreamweaver will do it all for them. I especially feel
sorry for Graphic designers, as they are talented designers who think
web design is just as easy... no offence to anyone at all, but web
design is more than just the tool, you are always learning, always
growing, and always experiencing other ways to do things.

Being part of this forum helps me learn, hell, even Murray asks
questions and learns new stuff from new people!
