My First Day on the Forum
I have been having multiple issues today. One was I wanted to change the size
of the container on my pages that didn't have a lot of text. I will send some code. The other is I first tried to upload my pages in Dreamweaver, but I got an error message that said "6 files incomplete." Then I uploaded the pages with GoDaddy's file manager. The pages lost all their formatting. The URL is http://www.rockinghorsevideo.com. Here is the code to the template I used. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Excellent-maintemplate</title> <style type="text/css"> <!-- body,td,th { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: medium; } body { background-color: #FF0099; } a { font-size: 90%; color: #33FFCC; } a:link { text-decoration: none; } #container { background-color: #CCFFCC; height: 1500px; width: 780px; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; } #nav a:hover { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 90%; color: #FFFFFF; } --> </style> <link href="/css/layout.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="top"> <p><!--content for ID top goes here --></p> <p> </p> <p>Rocking Horse Video</p> </div> <div id="nav"> [BULLET] [LI]<a href="/pages/index.html">Home</a></li> [LI]<a href="/pages/pricing.html">Pricing</a></li> [LI]<a href="/pages/Browse Your Rides.html">Browse Your Rides</a></li> [LI]<a href="/pages/To Order.html">To Order</a></li> [LI]<a href="www.shop.rockinghorsevideo.com">Shopping Cart</a></li> [/BULLET] <!--content for nav div goes here --> </div> <!--content for container goes here --></div><!--end container div --> </body> </html> Here is the code to one of the pages I was having issues with. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Excellent-maintemplate</title> <style type="text/css"> <!-- body,td,th { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: medium; } #main { height: 100px; width: 760px; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; padding-right: 10px; padding-left: 10px; } #main-to-order { height: 200px; width: 760px; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; padding-right: 10px; padding-left: 10px; } #correction div to order { background-color: #FF0099; height: 1300px; width: 780px; } body { background-color: #FF0099; } a { font-size: 90%; color: #33FFCC; } a:link { text-decoration: none; } #container { background-color: #CCFFCC; height: 1500px; width: 780px; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; } #nav a:hover { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 90%; color: #FFFFFF; } #top { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large; color: #FFFF00; text-decoration: none; background-color: #006600; height: 150px; width: 780px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-left: 0px; text-align: center; } #nav { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 90%; color: #33FFCC; text-decoration: none; height: 40px; width: 760px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: auto; background-color: #006600; text-align: center; list-style-type: none; letter-spacing: normal; word-spacing: normal; display: list-item; padding: 10px; } #nav a { color: #CCFFCC; } #nav ul { margin: 0px; padding: 0px; } #nav li { list-style-type: none; display: inline; margin-right: 10px; margin-left: 10px; } a:visited { text-decoration: none; } a:hover { text-decoration: none; color: #FFFFFF; } a:active { text-decoration: none; } --> </style> <link href="/css/layout.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="top"> <p><!--content for ID top goes here --></p> <p> </p> <p>Rocking Horse Video</p> </div> <div id="nav"> [BULLET] [LI]<a href="/pages/index.html">Home</a></li> [LI]<a href="/pages/pricing.html">Pricing</a></li> [LI]<a href="/pages/Browse Your Rides.html">Browse Your Rides</a></li> [LI]<a href="/pages/To Order.html">To Order</a></li> [LI]<a href="../templates/www.shop.rockinghorsevideo.com">Shopping Cart</a></li> [/BULLET] <!--content for nav div goes here --> </div> <div id="main-to-order"> <h1 align="center">To Order</h1> <p><img src="/images/Rocking Horse Video.jpg" alt="logo" width="100" height="70" class="image-left" />First browse your rides.? That code is NOT a Template. Perhaps that is part of your problem you are using what you think is a template and it is really just a web page. -- Walt "dreamer spiderwoman1" <webforumsuser@macromedia.com> wrote in message news:g9203f$5v3$1@forums.macromedia.com... >I have been having multiple issues today. Indeed Walt - but herein lies a common problem with Dw templates - they are special and work in a specific way - and many newcomers tend to interpret the word template as it is defined in the English dictionaries. Maybe in this instance creating a file - then archiving it - and copying it for each page. Problem is that as we know - you then can't change the template and have the changes ripple through child pages. what can we do ? - not a lot I guess - except keep explaining............. -- ~Malcolm~*... ~* |

Firstly you need to point to the right place for your css sheet -
currently you are pointing in the wrong place.... <link href="/css/layout.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> When in actual fact it is here in the root of your site.... http://www.rockinghorsevideo.com/layout.css -- chin chin Sinclair |

Re: My First Day on the Forum
<rant>It's clear to me most newbies here (OP may or may not be included)
jump into web design something like someone who sees people swimming, thinks it looks like fun, so they jump off the end of a long pier knowing nothing about swimming, floating, rip currents, waves, etc. For these newbies apparently the thought of reading the online Help and its many tutorials or better yet following the obvious links to the Adobe website with additional tuts, etc. never crosses their mind. Even better, when someone points out the folly in their approach they become offensive. I'm seeing more and more of them replying indignantly, "Don't lecture me, just answer my question". Responses of that nature seem to be trending upward I'm sorry to say. Again, not attributing that to the OP but clearly she has been merrily building pages from templates without bothering to learn what a Template is. I just don't get it. </rant> ;-) -- Walt "Malcolm _" <malcom@mon.org> wrote in message news:2c89b412g9jc4vdfta75fivaisrkk1eb6i@4ax.com... > On Tue, 26 Aug 2008 16:51:37 -0700, "Walt F. Thanks for the welcome. It can get a little bit rough in here, but I
appreciate the help. Take a look at the pages now and see what you think of my background color. http://www.rockinghorsevideo.com. |

I agree with Nancy. The background will cause eye strain for your visitors. I wouldn't be able to read all of the text on the page. What is the point of using such an extreme color? |
