Re: I'm in tears and ready to quit
there is no reason why you can't use tables in a website to display tabulated
data, i.e numbers. but now a days, lots of people view pages on blackberrys, mobiles etc. where tables just do not seem to work. at the end of the day, a site needs to be as accessible to the largest amout of people, including people with visual, or hearing disabilities, and tables are not great at forfilling this requirement. that is why the world wide web consortium do not encourage their over use, and enencourage the use of css. they have no financial or political advantage in suggesting this, so i don't think its a css conspiracy. |

Re: I'm in tears and ready to quit
i mean we start a movement where we force everyone to use Firefox, not
just encourage. you know a lot of people only design their sites for IE? we do the opposite. every website we create has a comment for IE users that says our sites only work in Firefox so they need to switch. if we all band together, we can't be stopped! Re: I'm in tears and ready to quit
Hi Ruby - I think I'm in a similar boat. I'd suggest create the sites in a
manner you feel comfortable with and then try to recreate them, or any other table-based design using CSS. And if you haven't already, do work through the six-part Designing with CSS tutorials by Adrian Senior, one page at a time. It feeds the concepts in small bites and builds on them gradually. And don't be afraid to re-do any of the tutorials! Good luck - Lisa |

True, but once again, what gives a page all of those fine qualities is not just avoiding the use of tables, but valid, clean markup, which certainly can include a judicious use of a table or two for layout without compromising ANY of those goals. -- Patty Ayers | www.WebDevBiz.com Free Articles on the Business of Web Development Web Design Contract, Estimate Request Form, Estimate Worksheet -- |
