Re: Please rate my site

ok murray, thanks for all your help on this one.

blimey, i didn't know there were so many limitations to what you can do with
html/css for seemingly basic tasks!!

i think i'll leave it as it is. i think 99% of my target audience will have
java enable without knowing it anyway.

any final thoughts on the site itself?

Re: Please rate my site

Just a reminder for a further spell/grammar check - in your menu you have
"Testmonials" and there are a few other things that need sorting out ie
inconsistencies with "&" and "and" -

Quote on Testimonials page:
I came to see Sue about my fear of driving, which was causing a lot of
stress and anxiety, not only the inconvenience after one session what a
remarkable difference. It's Gone!

Needs work.

Re: Please rate my site

yeah, i know that i've got to sort the spelling and grammer out a bit.
unfortunatley, this is what i was given to use from her previous site. which is
http://www.scdhypnotherapy.com/. i'm no proffesional, but i flatter myself that
my effort is better than the original.

believe it or not, this was produced by the 'proffesionals' who work at her
web hosting company.

i've been concentrating on getting the display correct, and streamlining the
code up to now. i will now get the spelling and grammer sorted out.

then it's just a case of waiting for the client to supply me with a better
picture of herself......

Please make the dropdowns a little wider - look in your
SpryMenuBarHorizontalsue css and change every instance of width: 8.2em;
to width: 110px;

It would make it look so much better as the drops look out of proportion.

Did you look at all these menu's ?
http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/

I'm not saying JavaScript doesn't have a place to refine some code -
but start with something simple and works for many sites.

Then move on and add more complexity.

Re: Please rate my site

1) Rule numero uno

NEVER EVER STRETCH IMAGES MORE THAN 1 OR 2 PX.

Even chaning an image by 1 or 2 px is only really used when lets say, your
trying to make someone look thinner. Its a photoshop style technique.

Also. are all those images your own? / Do you have permission to use them?

2) I personally am feeling that if you change the gradient background to
something which fits in with the rest of the colour theme, the site will
instantly look much better.

3) I think your left hand colum with the "......smoking" in looks quite
amateurish. Maybe either just go text links or have a vertical menu...or if you
really want the images to stay...why not put the links underneath each one?

4) Get the spelling right.

5) Titles. Firstly. I dont think the RED suits the theme. Secondly ... it
looks like your header 1 is the "SCD Hypnotherapy" bit. And your header 2 is
the incorrectly spel HYPNOPHERAPY. So your header 3 is the red text below
that.??? Then what are the other big bold comments "one session..."...Then you
have some underlined bold headers on other pages. You have some stange looking
titles as links... Do you see my point? If you stick to a few headers and be
consistent it will all look better in my opinion.

6) I dont think the menu looks to bad. I can read it. Just now sure about the
"on hover" change background to grey??? Looks a bit strange. too many colours.

7) Many of your images are poor quality and blurrerd.

8) Your contact me forms are strange and inconsistent.

9) Also. I dont know if your wrote the content..but there are many more
effects to some of the drugs/alcohol that your refer to.

10) Im a bit confused as to why the picture of Sue Davies (which should be
capitalised in the alt attribute) links back to the home page...seems strange??

11) Last but not least...the white text in your banner does not stand out at
all and it actually looks a bit naff...

Apart from all that. GOOD JOB!

Re: Please rate my site

I'm no expert on this, but isn't having her email addy in html a big no-no? I
use this: http://digitalcolony.com/2007/02/mas...l-address.aspx I
know other people use an image of the email addy and code the backend specially
to hid it from spam bots.

What does everyone else do?

Re: Please rate my site

i haved added the contact form for people to use as contact. i will be removing
the email address though, to hide from spammers.

i most certainley did not write the content for the site, but as i am no
expert on the matters discussed, i will not be changing any content, only
spelling and grammer.

i also do not think that red titles fit in with the site, but this is
something that the client insisted on.

also, what do you mean by my form being strange and inconsistent?

the pictures come free from a free stock photos site. i've checked the site,
and there is no copyrighted photos or statements
