OT: Interactive widget
Hello all,
My client and I want to produce a little interactive widget/application which can be emailed, embedded on web pages, linked to, etc. It needs to look great, respond the the user, and be easy to pass around "virally". My question is this: in what language are apps like that usually written? Flash? If my description is too vague, let me know and I'll try to improve upon it. Thanks very much in advance, -- Patty Ayers | www.WebDevBiz.com Free Articles on the Business of Web Development Web Design Contract, Estimate Request Form, Estimate Worksheet -- |

>"virally". You want to pass around a virus? Patty .. I'm shocked! Or did you mean to say "virtually"? ;) What happens to this application after someone finds it? Does it download to their computer and work on the desktop? If so . . have you considered AIR? You can use HTML and JavaScript .. doesn't have to be Flex. -- Nancy Gill Adobe Community Expert Author: Dreamweaver 8 e-book for the DMX Zone Co-Author: Dreamweaver MX: Instant Troubleshooter (August, 2003) Technical Editor: Dreamweaver CS3: The Missing Manual, DMX 2004: The Complete Reference, DMX 2004: A Beginner's Guide Mastering Macromedia Contribute Technical Reviewer: Dynamic Dreamweaver MX/DMX: Advanced PHP Web Development "P@tty Ayers ~ACE" <signup1REMOVE@ayersvirtualREMOVE.com> wrote in message news:gbrd0r$aju$1@forums.macromedia.com... > Hello all, > > My client and I want to produce a little interactive widget/application > which can be emailed, embedded on web pages, linked to, etc. It needs to > look great, respond the the user, and be easy to pass around "virally". > > My question is this: in what language are apps like that usually written? > Flash? > > If my description is too vague, let me know and I'll try to improve upon > it. > > Thanks very much in advance, > > -- > Patty Ayers | www.WebDevBiz.com > Free Articles on the Business of Web Development > Web Design Contract, Estimate Request Form, Estimate Worksheet > -- > > |

Re: Interactive widget
Hi Nancy, and thanks for replying.
I mean "virally". It's a common marketing concept meaning that the marketing message is passed from person to person voluntarily: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_marketing No, not something that is downloaded to the user's desktop. It needs to run on our servers and we need to be able to embed a link to it in emails, etc., and allow others to do the same - the way you do with YouTube videos. -- Patty Ayers | www.WebDevBiz.com Free Articles on the Business of Web Development Web Design Contract, Estimate Request Form, Estimate Worksheet -- "Nancy" <nancy@webwish.com> wrote in message news:gbrdib$b9h$1@forums.macromedia.com... > >It needs to look great, respond the the user, and be easy to pass around > >"virally". > > You want to pass around a virus? The best viral emails are generally the ones that don't appear to be intentional. I think the marketeers have seen how powerful it can be, and try to emulate it, but how successful it really is I don't know. I think the content is key, not just the medium. As long as it can easily be passed around and viewed then the content will make sure its passed about. We're fine re. the strategy and the content - just trying to figure out the technology, thus my question. Re: Interactive widget
Hi Patty,
I was at a adobe seminar this morning (new cs4 stuff) and they showed a good example of something I think you may be referring to. The example was built using fireworks to do the design, flash to add the interactivity and then air to deploy it Hope that helps, I'll try and tell you more if you need more info |

I figured Flash was the way to go. I guess I'll have to find out what "air" is, now. :-) -- Patty Ayers | www.WebDevBiz.com Free Articles on the Business of Web Development Web Design Contract, Estimate Request Form, Estimate Worksheet -- |
