designing for screen width
Hi:
I received a new product announcement from Project Seven for their new Curvitude layouts, which look very nice. Although my past designs are set to fit an 800 px width, I see that PVII is offering a 982 px layout as well. Is it now common to design a layout that wide? Thx, Ned |

What is the viewport on an iPhone?

Re: designing for screen width
Currently, on average, you have a 1 in 1000 chance of someone visiting your
site with an iPhone. The viewport is 800x600 or 600x800 if I recall correctly. To answer the OP's question, yes, the days of 800x600 (for non-mobile devices) are dying. To preempt Micha's inevitable response, fluid width layouts are garbage. |

Now you're being even more pedantic than Micha's sometimes accused of being. This is rapidly becoming one of those "pot & kettle" scenarios. :-) -- Walt "JoeyD1978" <webforumsuser@macromedia.com> wrote in message news:gbrih8$her$1@forums.macromedia.com... > Currently, on average, you have a 1 in 1000 chance of someone visiting > your > site with an iPhone. Re: designing for screen width
Two thoughts in response, Murray:
(1) His question was "Is it now common to design a layout that wide?" (2) You can scroll around a web page on an iPhone. That's kind of the point, that you can access pages the same way they look on a computer. -- Patty Ayers | www.WebDevBiz.com Free Articles on the Business of Web Development Web Design Contract, Estimate Request Form, Estimate Worksheet -- "Murray *ACE*" <forums@HAHAgreat-web-sights.com> wrote in message news:gbrfsd$e55$1@forums.macromedia.com... > Depends on your demographic. Re: designing for screen width
<To preempt Micha's inevitable response, fluid width layouts are garbage.>
LOL. While I understand the pre-emptive strike, I think you've tossed the baby out with the bathwater. Liquid layouts (100% screen widths) can produce very long strings of text that don't look good in all situations. But a well-crafted, say 3-column, liquid layout (with min and max widths) can look great and perform well on wide or narrow viewports. It all depends on how much content you need to display on the page. --Nancy O. Re: designing for screen width
Murray and/or Nancy, could you post some good examples of sites using that
technique? -- Patty Ayers | www.WebDevBiz.com Free Articles on the Business of Web Development Web Design Contract, Estimate Request Form, Estimate Worksheet -- "Murray *ACE*" <forums@HAHAgreat-web-sights.com> wrote in message news:gbrn89$n62$1@forums.macromedia.com... > Hear, hear.
