Starting Another Instance of Firefox
Hi All,
I'm having a problem with Firefox that I can't seem to figure out how to resolve. Basically I have Firefox running on my workstation (Solaris 9), let's call that hostA. I ssh (with a -X) to another Solaris 9 host, let's call that hostB. I want to launch another instance of Firefox on hostB and have it display on my workstation hostA. When I launch Firefox on hostB, what I think happens is that through the X connection, Firefox on hostB sends a request to Firefox on hostA to open a new browser window which is not what I want. I have different home directories on hostA and hostB, so the only way that I can think of that the two instances of Firefox are talking is through X. I've tried starting Firefox with the -ProfileManager option but that didn't help. Any other ideas? Thanks! -Ben |

I have a shared NFS home directory so I get the "profile in use" error at startup on the second server; but using a different profile works fine. Since you have different home directories, you will have different firefox profiles on hostA and hostB so you will not get this warning. Let me know if this works for you. I used Firefox 2.0.0.13 and Solaris 10. Ian |
