Search Engine Selector
Folks. Anybody knows why the Search Engine Selection feature was changed. At the bottom of the list there was a link to mycroft.mozdev.org. Is it to find elsewhere n the new selection feature or is it necessary to visit the mycroft page? Regards Erik |

Firefox 2.0.0.12 didn't change the search engine selection feature here Beta issues - it is a BETA - it may or may not have the same features when released - it may be a test of a new feature or it may be pointed to somewhere else to prevent the beta from overloading a site |

Truth is you really don't need them, if you can find a search text box for the sort you want, fill in the other options that apply, if any, and then use the "Add to Search Bar" extension https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3682/ it also allow you to create a keyword search, but then so does Firefox at least in version 3, if not in vesion 2. the Mycroft project is listed as a search engine, I didn't make this up look... https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ycroft&cat=all The Mycroft project can be found at http://mycroft.mozdev.org/download.html it just probably isn't pointed to by mozilla anymore. -- HTH, David McRitchie, extensions I use are briefly documented on my site Firefox Custom: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm |

(Maybe Mycroft moved up the list, or maybe it stayed put but you [Erik] added other engines below it?) I have Mycroft among my search engines, but that's because I explicitly added it some time ago from the Mycroft page -- probably one of those linked above, or not far from them. I have that not sure where I actually got it from but it is not quite the same as what they offer now. The have the "Open Search" form you can get it at http://mycroft.mozdev.org/install.html do a search on mozdev, then click on the link for "Mycroft Project - All" or on what it points to http://mycroft.mozdev.org/jsreq.html and you will have installed the "Mycroft Project - Open Search" engine. Nice thing about the Mycroft search engine either old or new is that it points to the advanced search page if you leave the form blank and hit enter. -- HTH, David McRitchie, extensions I use are briefly documented on my site Firefox Custom: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm |

Learn something new everyday. The link with jsreq.html must be taking parameters because it is the same link for Sherlock as it was for Open Source, so might not even be for the a particular search engine. So use this link if on SeaMonkey. http://mycroft.mozdev.org/download.h...h&sherlock=yes then click on # Internet - Mozilla Mycroft Project - Sherlock <---- The above link was obtained from http://mycroft.mozdev.org/install.html with Sherlock check marked) (Sherlock is compatible with Mozilla-based browsers. Opensearch is compatible with Firefox 2 [/Firefox 3] and Internet Explorer 7) |

Re: Search Engine Selector
Hi Moz and the rest of you guys.
Sorry of being late in responding. I teach people how to use Firefox (ver. 2). The in-built seach engine feature is one of the benefits I teach people to use. In just the previsous version of Firefox you where directed to a search engine page with a list of us-based search engines, but at the bottom of that list there was a link to mycroft.mozdev.org. The link line is now gone as we are directed to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:4. I know that mycroft.mozdef can be added on the search list but to make use of it require that you know what to search for. The previous mycroft link pointed to a page that offer the possibillity to country specific lists, for people to scan trough looking for something of interest. I'm sure that many of us found mycroft because there was a visible link to it. When hundreds and hundreds of search engines are listed it'll, as the case with the many add-ons, be more and more difficult to find someting of value. There are plenty of space to list this quite special page. I think that the mycroft team should syndicate the page offering pepole to subscribe and thus keep an eye on newly added search addons.
