Firefox 3 Crashing
Firefox 3 is disappearing every now and then, for no discernable
reason. The error message showing up in .xsession-errors that seems pertinent is: /usr/lib64/firefox-3.0/firefox-bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/libtotem-basic-plugin.so: undefined symbol: g_content_type_get_description X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3 Firefox 3 version: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008061913 Mandriva/3.0-3mdv2008.1 (2008.1) Firefox/3.0 Installed from rpm package firefox-3.0-3mdv2008.1 System: Linux localhost 2.6.24.5-desktop-2mnb #1 SMP Thu Jun 12 15:15:19 EDT 2008 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ GNU/Linux The OS is Mandriva Linux 2008.1. Desktop is KDE 3.5.9, but the same happens under GNOME 2.22.0. Complicating matters, but I think not the problem (tell me if I am wrong), I have Firefox 2.0.0.16 installed on the system (until recently that was 2.0.,0.15), because it is used by Gnome desktop apps. Now and then it gets launched, but then closed down and Firefox 3 started (which crashes the first time and then recovers and works thereafter). Any ideas on what to do about this? Cheers! jim b. |

It does. I removed the totem-mozilla package, and Firefox no longer crashes (at least so far). Loss of functionality will have to be tolerated until a new version that fixes the bug comes out.
