Interesting. FF must either be doing something, in addition to looking
for that key, to determine if there is support for the AV API, or its a bug.

I tried looking at the source for the download scanner code, but I have
to admit, its beyond my (very) limited knowledge, at this point.

I was never complaining, just describing the behavior and looking for an explanation. It never
bothered me and I finally did find a work around (not a fix, thanks Gianluca). From some of the
replies you would think I was asking for rewrite of the download manager. Is it a bug, yes, but I
would consider it a cosmetic one. However, to a less computer literate user it would appear that
the files were being scanned for viruses when, in fact, they were not. I knew that, but others may
not and thus be given a false sense of security.
