Media Player & Real Player sound files do not play.

Suddenly sound files in Firefox do not play when clicked on with either
Windows Media Player or Real Player. Both applications are working fine
and both play the sounds files in Internet Explorer. In Firefox, the
players open up but the sound files do not play. Nothing happens when I
click on play. I went to this page
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=206213 and tested both the
media player and active x installations and both test fine and play the
media. However when I go to a site such as
this:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...music&v=glance
and click on "Listen" to play one of the songs the player opens up but
the clip does not play. Any ideas?

Sharon,
I was not able to get that page to play in either FF or IE on my
system at first. In IE, I got an error that said the proxy settings
needed to be changed but I couldn't figure out which ones as their
instructions didn't match my version of IE. I do have a firewall
running (Zone Alarm Pro) and an AdBlocker (AdSubtract) that might be
interferring.
I kept trying and eventually was able to connect via IE. Never got
beyond that pop-up box with FF as you mentioned also. I only have Media
Player, not Real Player.

Hmmm, strange. I never had a problem playing those files before and I
can't think of anything that has changed recently. For me, they play
right away in IE.

Well I know the plugins are working from the test site. also have the no
play from Amazon. Player is Media Player2 aka WMP 6.4.07. I did find that
WMP was trowing an error message that it could not open the file. Looking
at the page source I could not find a valid file name for any of the songs
I tried to check.

I think that I solved the problem, although I don't understand why it
suddenly appeared in the first place. After doing lots of searches for
information I located the npmozax.dll file in C:\Program Files\Mozilla
Firefox\plugins folder and deleted it. Now media player works just fine
it Firefox. I hope this helps someone else.

the npmozax is the Netscape ActiveX plugin. By any chance did you
copy the plugins from Netscape 7.x over to Firefox. Or did you
install the ActiveX extension previously?

Don't know why Mozilla Active X plugin would cause this problem, but -
as you say - removing it makes WMP work on this site!

I didn't copy the plug in and I don't remember installing the ActiveX
extension...at least recently and I didn't have a problem playing the
media files until the past couple of days.
