Media Player doesn't open automatically for wmv files
When opening some (not all) .wmv links, I get a box that asks which player
to open it with. Windows Media Player is checked as is the box that says to always use this player for this type. However, I always get this screen. Again this only happens with some links. Other wmv links open Media Player directly. Using IE for the same links always directly opens media player. |

Please list two examples, so they can be checked... One that opens WMP automatically in FF, and the other that does not. |

It did the same thing as Firefox, always showing that screen and not remembering the "always use this" check box. So it is not a Firefox issue, more likely a "non-MS" browser issue with wmv files. I suspect there are different format files all with the wmv suffix. |

WMP opened and played the file. Try removing the WMV association in Windows. In XP it is under Control Panel|FOLDER OPTIONS|FILE TYPES After this is done, an attempt to load a .WMP should "ask" what application. Specify the path to WMPlayer, and check the "always use" box. This should reestablish the WMV association with WMP. No guarantees - ever. Always back up first or create a restore point. |
