Video Woes between Firefox and Linux
Hi, gang,
I am getting frustrated not being able to watch news videos from www.cnn.com, www.foxnews.com and www.msnbc.msn.com. This is because Bill Gates refuses to release a copy of Window$ Media Player to the public for Linux, though they do have one for OEM's to bundle with linux (go figure). Anyway, I can still watch many Windows Media Player videos with either Totem Media Player or Kaffeine Player. However, I do not know how to (or even if I can) get Firefox 1.5 to redirect them from those sites to either of the above mentioned Linux programs. Firefox automatically does it from sites like www.shoutcast.com, but not from those news sites. Please help. Thank you. -- Andy Rugg The Cheerful Pickle /* c h e e r f u l p i c k l e @ y a h o o . c o m */ |

CNN.com still insists on Windows Media Player 9.0 and foxnews.com simply blissfully ignores mplayer. How do I now get my Firefox 1.5 to use mplayer instead of insisting on WMP? BTW, after downloading it, I used my terminal to verify that it was in the path (/usr/bin/) and restarted my computer to make sure that everything would be properly initialized. So, now what do I do -- shoot the )&*%@+! thing to get it to work? -- Andy Rugg The Cheerful Pickle /* c h e e r f u l p i c k l e @ y a h o o . c o m */ |
