No Media Player Detected

When I click on a link on some sites to view a media file I get an error
saying "No Media Player Detected". However I have Media Player 9
installed. Here is an example: http://www.cnn.com/
I clicked on the following link" Watch: Wheelchair pooch, blind-cat and
dog duo hoping for help" and got that error message. It works fine in IE.
Anyone know what is going on?

Sharon

the notorious www.cnn.com was earlier discussed in this newsgroup. Can't
remember what the outcome was.
Anyway, type about:plugins in the location bar (for url's): check for
the WMP plug-in. Is it in the list?

if its listed, then go here:
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/windows-all.html#WMP and look for the
registry patch under known issues.

I get a different message on CNN. They have a terrible setup for video.
When I click on "Continue To Video" I get to the video. I have WMP 10
installed on Win XP Home SP2.

I found that if I installed the Active-X plugin for FF I would get a
message similar to yours and not be able to view the videos
...uninstalling that plugin (by deleting the dll in the plugin folder)
got me back to this "usable" message. Another plugin that messed up CNN
was one on Comedy Central's website ..very similar to the Active-X plugin.
I do wish CNN would improve their website for video...IE will never be
used here. :)

On my firefox (normal mode) it doesn't even work the links! Great! I
tried in safe mode and...yay! It works! I mean I still have the message
that says it can't determine the version of my plugin, bla, bla, but
when i continue to video, works great! I have the patch applied already.
On another site I had the message warning that I have the 7.2 (i think)
version of wmp, but I have the wmp 10. What's up with that? The plugin
is npdsplay.dll, right? My version is 3.0.2.629.

if its working in safe mode, then what extensions do you have. Maybe
one of them is blocking it. Disable the extensions one at a time
until you find the culprit.

After I send the message, I was looking for the broken extension and I
found that is NoScript! Even if I permit javascript to cnn it does not
work, but if I disable the NoScript extension works great! My god, i just
saw that it works even www.videodetective.com. Wow! Something is wrong
with NoScript I think!
