Google Maps still crashing my Firefox
I've been pecking away at this problem for a while now, and I am getting
nowhere. Firefox (both 1.0.7 and 1.5.0.2) are crashing every time I try to use Google Maps. When I enter a search term (location) in the form field and then click on Search - Firefox immediately crashes. To try and pin down the cause I uninstalled FF1.5, deleted the profile it was using, created a new profile, and then reinstalled FF1.5 (.0.2). I copied my bookmarks file from 1.0.7 to the new profile, started FF1.5 in that new profile, and tried Google Maps. It appears to work ok. (I say "appears to work" because just when I think I've isolated the problem, I see it crash some later time, anyway). As soon as I installed Tab Mix Plus (default install - still no other extensions or themes), Google Maps again crashes Firefox. Now here is some bizarre behavior. It only crashes when I have clicked on a bookmark (that is in my personal toolbar) to get to Google Maps. If I type maps.google.com (the same path that is in the bookmark) into the location window to access Google Maps, it does not crash when I try a search. This behavior seems very consistent. I have tried many times and it always crashes after opening Google Maps from my bookmark (which points to maps.google.com), and it never crashes if I open Google Maps by typing maps.google.com into the location window. Now, ... even though it seems that Tab Mix Plus is the culprit, here is another strange thing. I see the same behavior in FF1.07, where I have multiple tab extensions installed, but not Tab Mix Plus. And I mean it exhibits the exact same behavior. If I type maps.google.com into the location window, I have no problem. If, however, I click on my bookmark to open maps.google.com, it always crashes when I enter a search term (a place name) and hit enter (or click Search). And here's one even better. I have two 1.0.7 profiles, and when I use the default profile (with 3 extensions, but all disabled - and no themes), I see the exact same thing happening. Since it happens in all three circumstances, I also took the precaution of emptying my HOSTS file, .... to no avail. I am totally baffled and have no idea what this could be. The end result is that I am still not using FF1.5 and I have to avoid using Google Maps in my 1.0.7 vesion (which I had previoulsy used *a lot*). Does anyone have any ideas? (Note: I have also posted to the Tab Mix Plus forum, .... .... even though it does not appear to be caused exclusively by Tab Mix Plus.) -- ***************************** Chuck Anderson • Boulder, CO http://www.CycleTourist.com ***************************** |
